Chapter 1 - A Godly Generation

(How to Lead a Life of Godliness?)

"So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them." (Genesis 1:7)

In the beginning God created man in His own image, in the image of God created He him. God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed the breadth of life into his nostrils and the man became a living being. The life (spirit and soul) came into him.

Adam was the first man created by God to live on the face of the earth. In the beginning there was only one man created by God; not many. Do you know why? Because God wanted to have a godly generation through that one man.

If God had made many people instead of one man - Adam, a godly generation would not have appeared in this world. On the contrary, there might be ungodliness and disrespect existing among human beings from the very beginning. Every one might have acted according to his own mental will and idea. Order could not have been preserved in the society.

What is Godliness?

Godliness refers to man's relationship with God who created him (the Creator). A godly man will have the following characteristics:

1. He believes that God exists from the beginning. He also believes that he did not appear on this earth by chance but created by God for a purpose.
2. He would love to have an intimate fellowship with God, the Creator, by seeking Him day and night. His soul longs for having fellowship with his Creator all day long.
3. He would be willing to do things that are pleasing and acceptable to God. He will honor God by worshipping and serving Him all the days of his life.

One day a thief broke into a house at night to steal. The owner of the house was a godly man. He trusted God for his safety and slept peacefully. The thief entered the house and went straight into the room housing the bureau. He opened the bureau and stolen a bundle of money and jewelry.

As he was about to take everything he had stolen, he suddenly had a stomach ache that used to attack him frequently. He could not bear that stomach ache. He didn't know what to do and how to handle the situation.

As he was throbbing with stomach ache he saw a picture of Jesus Christ hanging on the wall. A thought arose in his mind: "Why not call on Jesus Christ once?" He immediately confessed his sins to Jesus by saying, "Jesus, forgive me. And relieve me from this stomach ache; I will not steal anymore.”

Immediately the abdominal pain left him. He left everything he had stolen and went back. As a result, he found happiness and peace. What a change he had in his life!

Yes, there was a kind of godliness found within him. So he received forgiveness of sins and physical healing in his body. May we take a moment to reflect on how our devotion towards God is today?

8 ஆசா யோசபாத்தைப் பெற்றான்; யோசபாத் யோராமைப் பெற்றான்; யோராம் உசியாவைப் பெற்றான்;

8 And Asa begat Josaphat; and Josaphat begat Joram; and Joram begat Ozias;

9 உசியா யோதாமைப் பெற்றான்; யோதாம் ஆகாசைப் பெற்றான்; ஆகாஸ் எசேக்கியாவைப் பெற்றான்;

9 And Ozias begat Joatham; and Joatham begat Achaz; and Achaz begat Ezekias;

10 எசேக்கியா மனாசேயைப் பெற்றான்; மனாசே ஆமோனைப் பெற்றான்; ஆமோன் யோசியாவைப் பெற்றான்;

10 And Ezekias begat Manasses; and Manasses begat Amon; and Amon begat Josias;

11 பாபிலோனுக்குச் சிறைப்பட்டுப்போகுங்காலத்தில், யோசியா எகொனியாவையும் அவனுடைய சகோதரரையும் பெற்றான்.

11 And Josias begat Jechonias and his brethren, about the time they were carried away to Babylon:

12 பாபிலோனுக்குச் சிறைப்பட்டுப்போனபின்பு எகொனியா சலாத்தியேலைப் பெற்றான்; சலாத்தியேல் சொரொபாபேலைப் பெற்றான்;

12 And after they were brought to Babylon, Jechonias begat Salathiel; and Salathiel begat Zorobabel;

13 சொரொபாபேல் அபியூதைப் பெற்றான்; அபியூத் எலியாக்கீமைப் பெற்றான்; எலியாக்கீம் ஆசோரைப் பெற்றான்;

13 And Zorobabel begat Abiud; and Abiud begat Eliakim; and Eliakim begat Azor;

14 ஆசோர் சாதோக்கைப் பெற்றான்; சாதோக்கு ஆகீமைப் பெற்றான்; ஆகீம் எலியூதைப் பெற்றான்;

14 And Azor begat Sadoc; and Sadoc begat Achim; and Achim begat Eliud;

15 எலியூத் எலெயாசாரைப் பெற்றான்; எலெயாசார் மாத்தானைப் பெற்றான்; மாத்தான் யாக்கோபைப் பெற்றான்;

15 And Eliud begat Eleazar; and Eleazar begat Matthan; and Matthan begat Jacob;

16 யாக்கோபு மரியாளுடைய புருஷனாகிய யோசேப்பைப் பெற்றான்; அவளிடத்தில் கிறிஸ்து என்னப்படுகிற இயேசு பிறந்தார்.

16 And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.

17 இவ்விதமாய் உண்டான தலைமுறைகளெல்லாம் ஆபிரகாம்முதல் தாவீதுவரைக்கும் பதினாலு தலைமுறைகளும்; தாவீதுமுதல் பாபிலோனுக்குச் சிறைப்பட்டுப்போன காலம்வரைக்கும் பதினாலு தலைமுறைகளும்; பாபிலோனுக்குச் சிறைப்பட்டுப்போன காலமுதல் கிறிஸ்துவரைக்கும் பதினாலு தலைமுறைகளுமாம்.

17 So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations.

18 இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவினுடைய ஜனனத்தின் விவரமாவது: அவருடைய தாயாகிய மரியாள் யோசேப்புக்கு நியமிக்கப்பட்டிருக்கையில், அவர்கள் கூடிவருமுன்னே, அவள் பரிசுத்த ஆவியினாலே கர்ப்பவதியானாள் என்று காணப்பட்டது.

18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.

19 அவள் புருஷனாகிய யோசேப்பு நீதிமானாயிருந்து, அவளை அவமானப்படுத்த மனதில்லாமல், இரகசியமாய் அவளைத் தள்ளிவிட யோசனையாயிருந்தான்.

19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily.

20 அவன் இப்படிச் சிந்தித்துக்கொண்டிருக்கையில், கர்த்தருடைய தூதன் சொப்பனத்தில் அவனுக்குக் காணப்பட்டு: தாவீதின் குமாரனாகிய யோசேப்பே, உன் மனைவியாகிய மரியாளைச் சேர்த்துக்கொள்ள ஐயப்படாதே; அவளிடத்தில் உற்பத்தியாயிருக்கிறது பரிசுத்த ஆவியினால் உண்டானது.

20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.

21 அவள் ஒரு குமாரனைப் பெறுவாள், அவருக்கு இயேசு என்று பேரிடுவாயாக; ஏனெனில் அவர் தமது ஜனங்களின் பாவங்களை நீக்கி அவர்களை இரட்சிப்பார் என்றான்.

21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

22 தீர்க்கதரிசியின் மூலமாய்க் கர்த்தராலே உரைக்கப்பட்டது நிறைவேறும்படி இதெல்லாம் நடந்தது.

22 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,

23 அவன்: இதோ, ஒரு கன்னிகை கர்ப்பவதியாகி ஒரு குமாரனைப் பெறுவாள்; அவருக்கு இம்மானுவேல் என்று பேரிடுவார்கள் என்று சொன்னான். இம்மானுவேல் என்பதற்கு தேவன் நம்மோடிருக்கிறார் என்று அர்த்தமாம்.

23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

24 யோசேப்பு நித்திரைதெளிந்து எழுந்து, கர்த்தருடைய தூதன் தனக்குக் கட்டளையிட்டபடியே தன் மனைவியைச் சேர்த்துக்கொண்டு;

24 Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife:

25 அவள் தன் முதற்பேறான குமாரனைப் பெறுமளவும் அவளை அறியாதிருந்து, அவருக்கு இயேசு என்று பேரிட்டான்.

25 And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.
