Jesus has power over death!

The Power of Jesus over Death!

Once during His earthly life, Jesus said, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up” (John 2:19).  This is the declaration Jesus made about his own body, which he considered as a temple of God Almighty.  Moreover, he raised some from the dead, by the power He had over the death.

In Luke 7, a centurion's servant was sick and at the point of death. The servant's master (the centurion) begged Jesus to come and heal his servant. Jesus healed the servant by saying a word and saved him from death.

Bringing a little girl back to life:

Jesus heard about the daughter of a synagogue leader, a girl of about 12 years old, who was dying.  So, Jesus was on his way to her house along with her father to heal her from her death bed.  But on the way, they received a message saying that, “The little girl has died.”

Immediately Jesus said to the girl’s father, “Do not be afraid; only have faith” (Mark 5:35, 36).

And when Jesus had come to the girl’s house, he put all the others outside, except some of his disciples and the child’s father and mother. Then he took the girl by the hand and said to her, “Talitha koumi!” And the girl arose and walked (Mark 5:41-42). Immediately, the dead child became alive and started to speak.

In this incident, Jesus raised a girl who was dead for few hours.  Similarly, Jesus raised many others from the dead.

Raising up the son of a widow:

One day Jesus went to a town called Nain. As he was entering the town, a dead man was being carried out to be buried. He was the only son of his mother, and she was a widow.

When Jesus saw her, he had compassion on her and said, “Do not weep.” He came and touched the bier. The bearers stood still. Then he said, “Young man, I say to you, arise.” The dead man sat up and began to speak. He gave him to his mother (Luke 7:11-15).

In this incident, we see Jesus raising a young man to life on the same day (within 24 hours) of his death.

Raising his friend Lazarus:

On one occasion, Jesus raised to life his friend Lazarus, who had been dead for four days. This incident is recorded in the 11th chapter of the Gospel of John. In this incident, Lazarus was a young man who was sick and nearer to death.

His sisters sent word to Jesus. But Jesus did not come to see his friend Lazarus right away. Meanwhile, Lazarus died before Jesus arrived and had been buried. Now Lazarus had been dead for four days. After fourndays of his death, Jesus came to saw him.

So, his sister Martha came to Jesus and said, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.” Jesus said to Martha, “I am the resurrection and the life.  He also said, “He who believes in me, even though he dies, will live” (John 11:26). Her sister Mary also saw Jesus and fell at his feet, weeping.

Then Jesus came to the tomb and saw that there was a big stone laid at the entrance of the tomb. So, He said, “Take the stone away.” So they took the stone away. Then Jesus cried out with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!” And immediately the man who had been dead came out, bound hand and foot with burial wrappings. Jesus said to those who stood by, “Untie him!” (John 11:38, 44).

In this way, Jesus revealed His power and glory by raising Lazarus, who had been dead for four days.
